Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do you supply and fit granite and quartz worktops yourselves? No. That would be a conflict of interests, we only provide you with the lowest quotes from trusted suppliers.
  2. Can you recommend a supplier? If they are on this site they are both well priced and provide a good quality of work. We are opening a recommendations page soon to give you more information.
  3. How much am I expecting to save? Usually between 25% up to 70% in some cases where variables are favourable.
  4. Why do I save this much? Suppliers may have some of your stone already in stock, may be able to group order and colourmatch a job they already have going through, may be able to template and or fit with another job in your area, may be keeping machines/staff working to capacity to maximise workhours.
  5. How much do I pay to register a job? Nothing, this is an absolutely free service.
  6. There must be some payment? Yes a supplier pays a small fee on any job he quotes for successfully. This is less than they pay for marketing/advertising per job so they can pass that saving to the customer as well.
  7. How long before my job is being templated should I list my quote? Usually 3-6 weeks to allow suppliers to pre-order any materials and to know how their diaries are for the days of template and fit.
  8. How long will it take from templating to fitting? This varies from company to company, type of stone, intricacy of the job, size of job, holidays, weekends. But all companies on the site are professional and will do their utmost to meet you requirements.
  9. Who do I pay my deposit to? The supplier with the winning quote will contact you for a deposit immediately after you reply to the acceptance email.
  10. When will this be? 10 to 14 days prior to the job being templated.
  11. What are the payment terms? This is between you and the supplier.
  12. What if I have a dispute with my supplier? We can offer an impartial, unbiased view on the dispute and mediate if necessary (we have never had to do this yet as we only accept reputable vetted companies).
  13. How can I put multiple jobs on the site? Builders and developers usually list each install separately or in the comments box write the numbers (eg. x40 apartments/houses) so the supplier prices accordingly.
  14. What about the quality of the stone? Companies supplying slab cut stone will have stone with a quality equal to each other. This stone is usually of a better standard than companies supplying countertop (blanks).
  15. What is the difference between a company who supply slab cut worktops and a company who supply countertop (or blanks)? Slab cut companies have better, more capable machinery for better crafted, more intricate work. More investment and usually a longer history.
  16. What are blanks? Blanks are the unblemished pieces of stone cut out of odd sized slabs, already pre cut and polished on delivery. A crate of these may come from 12 different pieces of stone, or not. These are a less expensive alternative.
  17. What are slab cut worktops? These are carved from a block and delivered to the supplier to be custom cut and machined to fit your kitchen perfectly.
  18. How can I ensure if I tick slab cut for pricing that the job is from slab? We are dedicated to our vetting process. If a supplier ticks slab cut it will be. Visit the suppliers factory and check the machinery (they always love to show the machines to anyone with an interest). Then look at your pieces of stone. It’s enjoyable seeing stone go from a block like this to being part of your home.
  19. What if we are unhappy with a supplier? Please let us know and also write on the recommendations section. We take our suppliers reputations, the integrity of our site, and customer satisfaction very seriously.
  20. What are edge profiles? These are the front edging around the stone and enhances the final finish. This can be relatively expensive (priced per metre) but worth it.
  21. Do all companies machine edge profiles? No not all companies have the machines for the edge profiles. Those that do have the machinery may not have the tooling for all profiles.
  22. What is a recessed drainer? The drainer area and around the sink is recessed down by approx 3 mm to keep water from overlapping the drainer area. This is usually accompanied by sloping drainer grooves.
  23. Are recessed drainers an efficient way of draining water? Yes they contain all the water a steel sink with built in drainer does but also look stunning. These can be fairly expensive.
  24. What does undermounted sink mean? The granite edges are polished internally and the sink is mounted underneath as in the picture on the quotes page. They usually come with drainer grooves
  25. Are drainer grooves an efficient way of draining water ? For small amounts of water like drip-drying pot washing-yes. With larger soakings they can be a little less efficient.
  26. What is a recessed hob? Recessed hobs are sunken into the worksurface to be a flat, sleek continuation of the worktop when viewed from level with the surface.
